sFlow Log Stream Data to Disk (for Debugging) - CSV File: What Measurement is the Size Column?

Votes:

Hi all,

I have monitored and downloaded an sFlow report using the 'Log Stream Data to Disk (for Debugging)' in the settings of my sFlow sensor, wich creates a Streams Sensor CSV log file. On of the columns in this CSV file is Size.

This measures the amount of traffic sent or received. However, it is not clear what the quantity is that is being measured.

Is it Bytes, Kilobytes, Megabytes, does anyone know?

PRTG fully supports sFlow Version 5 (the most common version). sFlow (short for "sampled flow") is a sampling technology for network monitoring invented by InMon.

With sFlow, you won’t analyze all your data traffic, but only every nth data packet. This method is called “sampling,” and is obligatory for sFlow. The sampling rate is the average ratio of the number of packets incoming on an sFlow-enabled port to the number of flow samples taken from those packets.

Since PRTG relies on the devices being monitored to display the information received, if you could provide details of the device you are monitoring I can try to find more information.
