Two-Factor (2FA) for the rest of us that do not use Azure

According to the post here: https://kb.paessler.com/en/topic/81138-implemented-two-factor-2fa-implementation?_ga=2.129525066.75888268.1684345900-1414258642.1684345900& it looks like Paessler thinks it has completed the request of two factor authentication for PRTG. But not every self hosted environment uses Azure. I am copying most of the data from that post because I don't see any further development of 2FA on the current roadmap, and I would like to request that it be implemented for on-prem servers without using Azure.

As a PRTG User, I want to use Two-Factor (2FA) authentication with on-prem PRTG without using Azure in order to secure the login process.

Two-Factor (2FA) has become more or less the standard for logging into security-critical appliances, which PRTG is. It would be great if we could have it, in addition to the passwords (be it via an extra form or appended to the password).

It should be based on either of the many TOTP authenticator apps (Google, Microsoft, Sophos) There should be fallback codes for print available when enabling Two-Factor (2FA) for an account (phone lost) I should be able to save my device for a certain period of time (e.g. 30 days) to avoid the permanent need of a new code.
