AWS (Amazon cloud) external IP not recognized by PRTG

We have PRTG8 installed on an AWS (amazon cloud) instance. They have an internal and an external IP associated with each instance. The problem is, that PRTG offers only the internal IP for binding itself to, not the external one, so that all links from the windows client point to http://internal.ip which you cannot access even from localhost due to some routing restrictions.

is it possible to enter the external IP somewhere, so that all links point to the correct IP?

We run several PRTG installations on EC2 and see the same problem. Likely caused by the virtualization technology that Amazon is using PRTG can not properly identify all network interfaces.

In PRTG's Server Administration tool:

  • select "All IPs" for the web server IP on the "Web Server" tab
  • [only if you use remote probes]: select "Accept connections from remote probes on all IPs" for probe connections on the "Core Server" tab

In PRTG's web interface:

  • go to Setup=>System Administration=> System&Website Tab and enter a DNS name in the "DNA Name" edit field that resolves to the public IP of your PRTG installation
