I am trying to get the GeoMaps feature to work in PRTG 12. I entered coordinates for a device, but the map doesn't load (tested all mapprovides NOT requiring an api code). I guess the traffic is blocked on one of our firewalls. In order to get proper firewall rules implemented, I need to know which domains are contacted on which port. Also i would like to know if there is a possibility to configure an http proxy for this if http is used. I found settings for an http proxy under notification delivery settings, but I don't know if this proxy is also used for the maps feature. Thanks in advance for your help!
Important note: This information is not fully up to date. We plan changes to the PRTG Geo Maps and will update this article as soon as the changes are released. Stay tuned!
This article applies to PRTG Network Monitor 13.1.2 or later
Servers PRTG Connects to for Geo Maps
Depending on the geo map provider you choose, PRTG connects to different URLs to retrieve geo coordinates for a street address and to obtain map tiles.
Usually only the web server needs to connect to those URLs and provides all necessary data to the client web browser, but sometimes also the client you use the web interface with needs internet access.
Can I Use a Proxy?
By default, PRTG will try to use a direct internet connection. If a proxy is mandatory in your network, please log in to the PRTG web interface and configure your proxy settings in the Core & Probes settings. For details about proxy settings, please see PRTG Manual: System Administration—Core & Probes
Which Servers will PRTG Connect To?
|Map Provider||Does Client Browser Need Internet Connection?||PRTG Server Connects To|
|Google Static Maps||yes; client connects to Google servers (port 443)|
Discontinued since July 11, 2016. See this article for details.
* On systems running PRTG version 184.108.40.2066/1897 or higher. We recommend that you do not use an earlier version.
When the proxy support for the Geo Maps will be available? is it on your roadmap?
Proxy support for geo maps is on our wishlist. Unfortunately, we cannot give an ETA, but I guess we will probably add it in 2012.
FYI, MapQuest uses additional Domains: otile2.mqcdn.com, otile3.mqcdn.com, otile4.mqcdn.com, oatile2.mqcdn.com, oatile3.mqcdn.com, oatile4.mqcdn.com
