Basic Simple ABC on Setup

Hi

Having installed PRTG (took us 2 days!), evaluation period expiring immediately and it automatically adding hundreds of sensors, we finally got to a position where it almost works (kind of). Obviously, we don't want to pay for the software if we can't see it doing the basic of our requirements. We are really struggling as we are new to monitoring. Can some in English with ABC guidelines help us set up some sensors. We have deleted all the previous sensors.

Sensor 1 - Pick up syslog data. We can see traffic but no breakdown and errors with "0.07 #s (Errors) is above error limit of <0.01 #s in Errors" . Our provider is sending data to the IP at the correct port 8001.

Sensor 2 - Pick up netflow data. It just states no data since startup. Our provider is sending data to the IP at the correct port 8000.

Other Sensors - Monitor disk space on servers. This is the only sensor that seems to do something but we are unable to set the thresholds for warnings. Is there any help on what each sensor can do and monitor?

We can see add sensors but the tree only includes a very small proportion of our network. Does this mean only des devices on the tree will get evaluated in syslog and netflow logs?

We have been told that PRTG is the right software, hence our persistence.

Thank you in advance.

Hello owensict,

Thank you very much for your information and your interest in PRTG Network Monitor.

Please contact us directly via email, as it will simplify the further communication for sending logs and screenshots.

If your PRTG Core Server is connected to the internet, the best and most detailed approach will be to contact us via Setup | Contact Support in PRTG's web interface. This approach automatically attaches a support bundle which allows us to directly analyze your current configuration.

Best,
Sebastian
