Hi, I need to move some devices and its sensors from one PRTG instllation to another one without loosing what I have in the destination PRTG installation. I do not want to migrate one complete installation to substitute another one, what I need to do is move some devices painstakingly created in PRTG installation 1 to PRTG instllation 2 in another server and keep what I have in istallation 2 as is. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Dear Jose,

Thank you very much for your knowledge base post.

Kindly note that it is not possible to migrate just certain devices or any part of the configuration between two PRTG installations. The only approach is to proceed a full migration and delete the sensors and devices which are not needed afterwards.

Kind regards,
Sebastian

Thanks Sebstian, I was thinking: can you move a remote probe from one installataion to another? Move the devices in local probe No. 1 to the remote probe, attach the remote probe to installation 2 and move devices from remote probe to local probe No. 2. I know it sounds odd but I do not want to create the devices and sensors again.

Dear Jose,

Indeed, you could change the corresponding Core Server of a Remote Probe but this will neither affect nor migrate devices and sensors.
All devices, sensors, historic data and the configuration from the Local Probe as well as all Remote Probes is saved on the PRTG Core Server. If you change the Core Server address, the Remote Probe is pointing to, a new and empty Remote Probe will have to be approved on the new PRTG Core Server.

You will have to either fully migrate PRTG or create the devices and sensors again.

Kind regards,
Sebastian
