User Story

As a PRTG User, I want to get informed when a sensor's value (for example a temperature probe) experiences a sudden change in value without reaching the warning or error thresholds. Basically trigger an alarm based on |dx/dt| > Delta.

Details of User Story

There are certain measurements where a sudden change (over the course of let's say 30-60 seconds) isn't beneficial for the device we monitor. The "long term" minimum or maximum values haven't been reached but there might have been a sudden rise in power demand or a steep increase in temperature (rack door opened). It would furthermore allow the monitoring of constantly increasing processes (pages printed counter) and the alarming if a threshold gets exceeded between one or more measurements (huge print output in a short time). Some things can be achieved using the Unusual sensor detection, but the required granularity isn't possible.

Acceptance criteria

  • Maximum Delta Value
  • Timespan over which this Delta is evaluated
  • Alarm on Rising, Falling or both change directions
