User Story
We would benefit from having PRTG send basic "proof of life" heartbeat status updates to a cloud service (my-prtg.com?) which could in turn notify the admin if the PRTG server hasn't made contact within a specified duration.
This would benefit smaller shops who are unable to implement additional in-house servers/solutions or externally managed cloud servers themselves. Paessler's current cloud offerings are vastly overkill in feature and price for this basic functionality.
This would allow the admin to be alerted if PRTG ever was not active. There are other solutions but most seem to be overkill in complexity or infrastructure requirements.
Details of User Story
The PRTG server itself should initiate the traffic to the cloud service so that it would not need to be externally accessible. PRTG could have a separate admin section where cloud heartbeat could be configured. A number of items could be sent to Paessler, such as basic "is the server online/operational". It could be more advanced with the status of the Probe/Core/System health, but even that wouldn't be necessary.
This is something PRTG could charge a low monthly rate for or include it in the subscription cost.
Acceptance criteria
- Built-in ability for PRTG to connect to a cloud site (ideally my-prtg.com) and send basic proof of life status checks at a specified interval
- Ability for alerts (email/text/etc) to be sent to admins from the cloud site if PRTG does NOT make contact in a specified interval
- Ability to pause or schedule maintenance windows
