This article applies to PRTG Network Monitor 24

Monitor your SAP database with a PRTG extension

Paessler now offers various PRTG extensions, including the Paessler PRTG Database Observer.

PRTG Database Observer supports the following database types:

  • MSSQL
  • Oracle
  • Mysql
  • SAP Hana
  • SAP ASE/Sybase
  • DB2
  • Informix
  • MaxDB

There is a free trial available on the Paessler website.

SAP Monitoring Using Custom Sensors

With PRTG's EXE/Script Advanced sensor type you can extend your monitoring using custom binaries or scripts which return XML code. They can be used additionally to the many sensor types that come with PRTG out-of-the-box.

German software company Icon Software has written a bunch of EXE sensors that can be used with PRTG in order to query SAP systems. The results will be integrated into your monitoring data, just like you are used to it with other sensors.

There are some SAP EXE sensors for free, others are available in packages for a one-time payment.

For more details on how to obtain and configure those sensors, please see the Icon Software website.

SAP service provider itesys has developed a comprehensive package of SAP sensors for integration into the PRTG monitoring software. See Press Release by Paessler, October 2018.

The SAP Monitoring Add-On goes via RFC connection directly into SAP or the database and retrieves the values directly from the source. The SAP sensors deliver numerous values and parameters e.g. of IDoc, SAP Jobs, Workprocess, Dialog, Dumps, J2EE, SAP Business Objects, Syslog, RFC and many more including SAP databases like SAP HANA, Sybase, MaxDB, Oracle, MSSQL or DB2. All sensors can be tested at any time with the free demo license.

ICON Software GmbH has released two further sensors for process monitoring of SAP HANA for free usages. Thus a total of 6 PRTG sensors are available for SAP Basic Monitoring (ABAP, J2EE, HANA) free of charge.

For more information and the non-binding requirement, please visit SapPrtg FreePackage

Alternatively, of course, the EvaluationPack, consisting of the free sensors and about 40 other proven sensors from practice for 30 days can be requested. In conjunction with the SAP Profiler, the most diverse requirements (Basics, Monitoring, Workload and DataBases) can be represented or generated interactively for PRTG in the simplest way.

For more information and the non-binding request, please visit SapPrtg EvaluationPack
