Votes:

Hello,

The same question as here: https://kb.paessler.com/en/topic/89335-snmp-version-3-sha256-and-sha512-support

When can we expect SHA256 and SHA512 support for SNMP v3? It has been almost half a year already since the last status.

Thanks alot!

Hello, at the moment we don't have an update to know when we can expect this feature. We handle the feature requests in our knowledgebase, you can create a new request or vote for a request that has been previously requested. The requests with more votes will get higher priority on our developers department. You can find more information here https://kb.paessler.com/en/topic/79245-how-can-i-propose-new-features-or-sensors-for-prtg

Hi Paessler, can you please provide an updated timeline for the implementation of these hashing algorithms in SNMPv3 Authentication? SHA has had collisions for over 10 years now, and SHA-256 and SHA-512 are widely renowned as the new standard.

Thank you

At the moment we still don't support SHA256 and SHA512. Our development team tried to implement them in the latest version which has been released (.79) however they had to remove them due to the external library (Net-SNMP) having memory leaks. Consequently, it might take some time before our developers can finally implement them.

It is planned to be added to the next upcoming version 22.x.80 which will be released soon, however there's no exact ETA yet. You can find our release notes here: https://www.paessler.com/prtg/history/stable when it is available.

Unfortunately, there still doesn't seem to be any support for SHA2-256. We are also currently unable to set up our new switches with SNMP. It's really a shame that Paessler doesn't manage to implement such basic security features in a timely manner.

Hello,

Starting with version 23.2.84 PRTG now supports additional ciphers for SNMP v3. PRTG now supports the following encryption methods for SNMP v3 communication in the Credentials for SNMP Devices settings: AES192 and AES256 (Advanced Encryption Standard), SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 (Secure Hash Algorithms). Previously we only supported AES128 for encryption. Source: https://www.paessler.com/prtg/history/stable for version 23.2.84.1566

We wish happy monitoring.

Kind regards,
Johannes Beyerlein, Technical Support Team
